Northwest hasn't had much luck against Portsmouth West recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Mohawks will be playing at home against the Senators at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
On Friday, Northwest got the win against Vinton County by a conclusive 43-22.

Northwest can attribute much of their success to Jake Brown, who rushed for 105 yards and one touchdown on only 13 carries, and Carson Christian, who gained 157 total yards and four touchdowns. With that strong performance, Brown is now averaging an impressive 100.3 rushing yards per game.
Another reason for the win was Northwest's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Jaxon Powell and Aidden Armbrister, who racked up four sacks between them. Northwest is undefeated when Armbrister posts one or more sacks, but 1-3 otherwise.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Portsmouth West). They were the clear victors by a 44-20 margin over Valley on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Senators in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won six in a row.
Portsmouth West's win came from a few key players Northwest will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Anthony Bishop, who rushed for 139 yards and three TDs. What's more, he's the game marked his third straight with at least 137. Braden Adkins was another key player, picking up 143 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Portsmouth West now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Northwest, they now also have a winning record of 4-3.
