Apache Junction is headed into the  contest out to prove that what happened against Round Valley  on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Prospectors took a  blow against the Elks, falling  49-6. The Prospectors were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at  42-0.
Meanwhile, Gilbert Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch  on Friday as the team picked up their third straight  loss. They took  a  27-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of Valley Christian. While the Knights didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Trojans  6-0 in the first  quarter.
Despite the  defeat, Gilbert Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore  Pierson Scott picked up 86 receiving yards and one  TD, and also rushed for 38 yards and one  touchdown.
 Gilbert Christian didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of  Brodan Barth and  Kamari Stanbury. Another thorn in Valley Christian's side was  Hyatt Lang, who picked up  two  sacks and made nine total tackles.
 Apache Junction's loss dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Gilbert Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.
