Basketball Recap: Wesley Chapman's Big Game Can't Quite Lead St. John's Northwestern Military Academy over St. Francis

St. John's Northwestern Military Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss dating back to last season. They fell 71-62 to the St. Francis Mariners. The Lancers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Mariners from their previous meeting back in December of 2023.

Several Lancers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Wesley Chapman, who went 6 for 15 on his way to 16 points and eight rebounds. Chapman is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Mamadou N'Diaye was another key player, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 19 rebounds.

Even though they lost, St. John's Northwestern Military Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Josh Green was his usual excellent self, going 12 of 21 on his way to 31 points and five assists for St. Francis. Those 31 points gave Green a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Nerby, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.

St. John's Northwestern Military Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for St. Francis, their win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-3.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Living Word Lutheran the next time they take the court. St. John's Northwestern Military Academy will host Living Word Lutheran at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, while St. Francis will host them at 7:15 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
