Basketball Recap: Western Skates Past Green Valley with Ease

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Western's strategy against Green Valley on Monday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Western Warriors blew the Green Valley Gators out of the water with a 60-31 final score. The Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 29 points or more this season.

Leading Western to victory were Laila Lwaba and Kyra Pace. Lwaba went 8 for 12 on her way to 20 points in addition to seven assists and seven steals, while Pace dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. Lwaba has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lyris Davis, who posted nine points and five rebounds.

Green Valley's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sabbra Shirley, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Shirley a new career-high in boards.

Western has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.3 points per game. As for Green Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-2.

Western will face off against Cimarron-Memorial at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive. As for Green Valley, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, an 84-16 defeat against Mater Academy East Las Vegas on the 10th.
