Baseball Recap: Highland Tech Victorious

While Highland Tech put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Bessemer City. The Rams walked away with a 3-0 victory over the Yellow Jackets. The win continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Yellow Jackets: they've now won nine in a row.

Not much got past Erwing Soza, who gave up just four hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Bessemer City off the board. Soza also tossed no walks, which is notable because Highland Tech is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-8 otherwise.

At the plate, Highland Tech let Coleman Schafer and Grayson Lunsford run wild. Schafer went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI, while Lunsford went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Lunsford has posted since back in February.

Highland Tech hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bessemer City struck out 12 times.

Highland Tech's victory bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Bessemer City, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 11 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.

Bessemer City will head out to face off against Lincolnton at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Highland Tech will be paying especially close attention to the Yellow Jackets' game: after the Yellow Jackets faces off against the Wolves, they'll take on Highland Tech again at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
