The Cyprus Pirates will head out on the road to challenge the Granger Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cyprus has four straight victories, Granger has 13 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Cyprus posted their closest win since November 21, 2023 on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Kearns 50-47.
Cyprus' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Amelia Echternkamp led the charge by scoring 13 points along with three steals. Echternkamp hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Tamila Francis was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five steals.
Granger suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They were beaten by Taylorsville 71-21. Granger has not had much luck with Taylorsville recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Cyprus is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. As for Granger, they dropped their record down to 1-13 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight at home.
Cyprus was able to grind out a solid victory over Granger in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, winning 61-48. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cyprus since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
