The Lorain Titans will square off against the Oberlin Phoenix at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Lorain will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Open Door Christian on Thursday. The Titans blew past the Patriots 16-5. The victory was some much needed relief for the Titans as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Olivia Charlton made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up five earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple.
In other batting news, Ja'Ly Cortes was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing eight bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Alayna Warren was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.
Lorain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Oberlin got the win against Cleveland Central Catholic on Tuesday by a conclusive 23-3.
Like Lorain, Oberlin also got a great game from a two-way player: Larissa Freas. She struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Freas was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Clara McCown was a standout: she scored four runs and stole six bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Amaya Price, who scored three runs and stole seven bases while going 2-for-4.
The win got Oberlin back to even at 1-1. As for Lorain, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
