The Southern Alamance Patriots waltzed into their matchup on Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. They snuck past Orange with a 47-41 win. This was payback for Southern Alamance, who suffered a 34-31 loss the last time these two teams met.
Southern Alamance got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sunny Yarnell out in front who scored 18 points along with two blocks. Yarnell is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 16 or more in the last three games she's played. Madison Brouillard was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Orange lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Maura Mcmurtry, who scored 11 points along with four steals. Mcmurtry continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Evelyn George, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Southern Alamance has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a massive bump to their 11-11 record this season. As for Orange, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-10 record this season.
Southern Alamance has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Eastern Alamance at 6:00 p.m. on February 13th. Eastern Alamance knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matchups -- so hopefully Southern Alamance likes a good challenge. Orange will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Durham School of the Arts at 6:00 p.m. on February 12th. Hopefully Orange focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Friday.
