2A-1 Region II District 8 recap Oct. 16, 2012
Hooks moved up to 522 from 561 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A-1 Region II District 8. The Hornets climbed the ranks as a result of falling to Daingerfield 34-20.
New Boston extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Redwater, 32-14. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
Mt. Vernon's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Tigers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Daniel Brown has thrown for 587 yards and six touchdowns this season, while Sakorey Chandler has 22 catches for 379 yards. Kris Ables leads the league in rushing with 384 yards.
A big matchup in 2A-1 Region II District 8 this week will be when Mt. Vernon takes on Queen City. As it stands, the Tigers are in second, while the Bulldogs are in third.
Hooks made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,320 from 5,687. The improvement came about via a 34-20 victory over William McDonald's team last week.
