Baseball Game Preview: Dixie Heights Colonels vs. Archbishop Moeller Fighting Crusaders

Dixie Heights is 0-3 against Archbishop Moeller since April of 2016 but things could change on Wednesday. The Colonels will host the Fighting Crusaders at 5:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Dixie Heights is headed into the matchup having just posted their closest win since April 27th on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Scott 5-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Colonels.

Ian Meyers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits.

At the plate, Sean Mitchell was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Dixie Heights: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 12-15 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Stulz, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Archbishop Moeller ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Fairmont, sneaking past 6-5. Six seems to be a good number for the Fighting Crusaders as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Archbishop Moeller is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Dixie Heights, they now have a winning record of 17-16.
