After five games on the road, Benson is heading back home. They will take on the Santa Rita Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Santa Rita took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Benson, who comes in off a win.
Benson has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 46 points or more this season. They breezed by San Miguel on the road to the tune of 80-5. Given Benson's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while San Miguel is ranked 213th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jamey Darwin continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 22 points along with 8 steals and 5 rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Benson's points. Kaylei Taylor was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with 5 rebounds.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Santa Rita, who are still winless after their eighth matchup. They were beaten by St. John Paul II Catholic 58-14 on Monday. Santa Rita has struggled against St. John Paul II Catholic recently, as their match on Monday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
The losses dropped Benson to 4-1 and San Miguel to 0-4.
Everything came up roses for Benson against Santa Rita in their previous meeting back in February as the team secured a 68-13 win. Does Benson have another victory up their sleeve, or will Santa Rita turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
