The Mantachie Mustangs came tearing into Tuesday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 43-36 victory over Smithville. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Mantachie also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2022.
Despite the loss, Smithville still got an impressive performance from Mary Haley Hood, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Hood scored a full 50% of Smithville's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Mikayla Wall, who scored 6 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 steals.
The victory got Mantachie back to even at 5-5. As for Smithville, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mantachie will square off against New Site at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. New Site presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Mantachie in Mississippi (New Site is ranked 37th, while Mantachie is ranked 137th). Smithville's road trip will continue as they head out to face Tupelo Christian Prep at 12:00 p.m. on December 8th.
