The Corvian Community Cardinals fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Mountain Island Charter Raptor on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 40-29 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Raptor. Corvian Community was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Mountain Island Charter apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.
Despite the defeat, Corvian Community saw an underclassman step up: Emily Johnson scored 12 points.
Mountain Island Charter's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cayla Bridgewater led the charge by scoring 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bridgewater has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Genesis Cooke, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and six steals.
Corvian Community has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season. As for Mountain Island Charter, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-11.
Corvian Community will be playing at home against Pine Lake Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Pine Lake Prep is facing Corvian Community at the right time seeing as Corvian Community is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Mountain Island Charter, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Bradford Prep at 6:00 p.m. on February 9th. Mountain Island Charter is facing Bradford Prep at the right time seeing as Bradford Prep is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
