The Atholton Raiders are on the road again on Friday and plays the River Hill Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Wednesday, Atholton earned a 47-40 victory over the Scorpions. Given Atholton's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 64th, while the Scorpions are ranked 249th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Atholton's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Amir Shaheed, who scored 15 points along with four steals, and Deion Dent, who scored 22 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Camden Thibeault, who scored four points along with five steals.
Meanwhile, River Hill waltzed into their game on Wednesday with four straight wins but they left with five. They escaped with a win against Marriotts Ridge by the margin of a single free throw, 67-66. 67 seems to be a good number for River Hill as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Atholton is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a massive bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for River Hill, their win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-1.
Atholton came up short against the Hawks in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 67-62. Can Atholton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
