This season hasn't been kind to the Walnut Hills Eagles, who are still winless after their seventh game. They fell to Calvary Day School 62-58. While losing is never fun, Walnut Hills can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 646th in Ohio, while Calvary Day School is ranked 128th in North Carolina).
When it comes to explaining why Walnut Hills lost on Thursday, one person who can't be blamed is Cj Claxton. Despite the final result, he scored 26 points along with six rebounds. Ty Austin was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds.
Calvary Day School got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Nate Keegan out in front who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Dane Cassada, who scored 13 points along with eight assists.
Walnut Hills' defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Calvary Day School, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-7.
Walnut Hills will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Ashley Ridge at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Ashley Ridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Thursday. Calvary Day School won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Grant County at 1:30 p.m. on December 29, 2023. Grant County has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 188 points over their last three matches.
