Baseball Recap: Wood-Ridge Has No Trouble Against Cresskill

Wood-Ridge won the last time they faced Cresskill and things went their way on Thursday too. The Blue Devils blew past the Cougars 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won three games by six runs or more so far this season.

Jack Caprio made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Devin Gravina looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Wood-Ridge is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 2-4 otherwise.

Back at the plate, Wood-Ridge got a big performance out of Nick Scalera, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most runs Scalera has posted since back in May of 2024. Lucas Mendoza also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Wood-Ridge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.

Wood-Ridge pushed their record up to 5-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Cresskill, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wood-Ridge will square off against Hackensack at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Blue Devils are facing the Comets at the right time seeing as the Comets are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Cresskill, they will head out to face off against Dwight Morrow at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
