5A District 6 recap October 1, 2013
South Sumter extended the longest winning streak in 5A District 6 this week by beating Central, 69-0. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Raiders.
Nature Coast Tech moved up to 294 from 333 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Sharks were able to move up by defeating Pasco 29-28.
Marcus Allen provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Weeki Wachee fell to Zephyrhills. He completed 5 passes for 58 yards and also ran for 106 yards. Allen's favorite target this week was Dayonta Patterson, who caught 5 passes for 46 yards.
Grant Starling put up the best numbers through the air as the Pirates fell to Nature Coast Tech. He finished with 8 completions for 85 yards and 2 touchdowns. Starling's favorite target this week was Nate Craig, who caught 4 passes for 44 yards.
The Hornets' David Tinch and Patterson led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Tinch has thrown for 350 yards this season, while Patterson, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 17 catches for 229 yards. The Bears' Robbie Bradley leads the league in rushing yards with 394.
Two of the top teams in 5A District 6 will go toe-to-toe this week when Pasco takes on South Sumter. Tom Mchugh's team's offense has racked up 119 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while Inman Sherman's team has allowed only 29 on the year.
The Pirates are currently in third, while the Raiders are in first.
