There's no place like home for The Ashe County Huskies, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They walked away with a 13-6 win over South Caldwell on Friday. The score was all tied up 0-0 at the break, but Ashe County was the (much) better team in the second half.
Luke Peterson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 131 yards and two touchdowns.
Despite the loss, South Caldwell still got an impressive performance from Zack Freeman, who rushed for 151 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. Freeman really tore up the turf during one magnificent 71-yard run.
The team's defense also tried their best in the loss by holding Ashe County to a paltry 241 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to South Caldwell's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Bryson Shook and his two sacks.
Ashe County's victory was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.8 points per game. As for South Caldwell, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.
Ashe County will head out on the road to face off against Watauga at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Watauga's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last eight matches. South Caldwell does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
