On Monday, the Silverado Skyhawks faced the Coronado Cougars in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Silverado took a 74-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of Coronado. Silverado's loss continues an unfortunate trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
Despite the defeat, Silverado had strong showings from Kayden Goss, who scored 19 points along with two steals, and Carlos Bradley, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Goss has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcell Simpson, who scored eight points.
Coronado's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Josiah Cunningham led the charge by scoring 23 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jonny Collins, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds.
Silverado's loss dropped their record down to 14-8. As for Coronado, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-8.
Silverado will head out on the road to challenge Arbor View at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Arbor View is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 61.1 points per game. As for Coronado, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Desert Pines at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Desert Pines will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nevada Rankings (they are ranked 26th, while Coronado is ranked third).
