Jefferson has gone a perfect 10-0 against Martinsburg recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Cougars will host the Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. Jefferson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Jefferson came out on top against Clarke County on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run third inning. The Cougars sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over the Eagles.
Becca Munslow was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Savannah Smith was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Martinsburg was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 9-4 to Mountain Ridge.
Olivia Mullin was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Martinsburg saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tianna Sanabria, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Jefferson pushed their record up to 14-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of five runs across that stretch. As for Martinsburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-17.
Martinsburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Jefferson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Martinsburg, though, as they've been averaging only 2 strikeouts. Will Jefferson keep running through batters, or will the Bulldogs buck the trend?
Jefferson took their win against Martinsburg in their previous matchup on April 8th by a conclusive 16-3 score. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
