The South Allegheny Gladiators will head out on the road to face off against the Greensburg Salem Golden Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with eight consecutive losses for South Allegheny and six for Greensburg Salem.
Last Friday, South Allegheny lost to Mt. Pleasant on the road by a decisive 42-27 margin.
South Allegheny might have lost, but man, Cameron Epps was a machine: he rushed for 202 yards and three touchdowns. Tyreeke Chatman was another key contributor, rushing for 82 yards.
Meanwhile, Greensburg Salem took a serious blow against Elizabeth Forward on Friday, falling 48-13. While losing is never fun, Greensburg Salem can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 451st, while Elizabeth Forward is ranked 65th).
South Allegheny's loss was their eighth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-0 Elizabeth Forward and 7-1 Belle Vernon (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 68.9% over those games). As for Greensburg Salem, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: South Allegheny has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 152.8 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Greensburg Salem, though, as they've been averaging only 92.7 per game. How will Greensburg Salem fare against such a dominant running game?
South Allegheny ended up a good deal behind Greensburg Salem in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, losing 42-28.
