Laguna Creek has gone 8-2 against Rio Americano recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Laguna Creek Cardinals will welcome the Rio Americano Raiders at 4:00 p.m. Laguna Creek is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.
Laguna Creek had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Del Campo on Tuesday. Laguna Creek blew past Del Campo 14-4. That ten run margin sets a new team best for the Cardinals this season.
Laguna Creek got a massive performance out of Azariah Maddox, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Sophia Rials, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Maddox wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Laguna Creek kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Rio Americano posted their closest win since March 9, 2024 on Tuesday. They skirted past Cordova 8-6.
Taylor Galbreath was a standout: she scored two runs while going 3-for-3. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Taylor Bloyed was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Laguna Creek pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Rio Americano, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-8.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Laguna Creek hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .421. However, it's not like Rio Americano struggles in that department as they've averaged .352. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Laguna Creek took their victory against Rio Americano in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 14-4. Does Laguna Creek have another victory up their sleeve, or will Rio Americano turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
