The Christoval Cougars will face off against the Hawley Bearcats at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Christoval will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
Christoval is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They walked away with a 14-11 win over Ozona. The game was the first time the Cougars have beaten the Lions on their field since April 16, 2021.
Ty DeBusk made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2025. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Christoval kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, while Hawley put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Bangs. The Bearcats were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over the Dragons. Considering the Bearcats have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Christoval, Hawley also got a great game from a two-way player: Braylen Williams. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Williams has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jesse Nieto was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Drew Siller, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
Hawley's victory bumped their record up to 19-8-1. As for Christoval, their win bumped their record up to 16-5-1.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Christoval has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .489. However, it's not like Hawley struggles in that department as they've averaged .466. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
