The Colfax Bulldogs are taking a road trip to square off against Pe Ell/Willapa Valley at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
While Colfax's win against Asotin wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bulldogs narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Panthers 10-8. The win was some much needed relief for the Bulldogs as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Marchele McNeilly tossed a big game, tossing 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits.
At the plate, Colfax got a big performance out of Izzy Huntley, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases Huntley has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Layla Inman, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Pe Ell/Willapa Valley unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 18-14 to Raymond/South Bend.
Pe Ell/Willapa Valley got a big performance out of Lauren Matlock, who went 3-for-5 with three runs and one double. Sophia Milanowski was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run.
Pe Ell/Willapa Valley's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 12-1 and their overall record down to 18-5. As for Colfax, the victory got them back to even at 11-11.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Colfax hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. However, it's not like Pe Ell/Willapa Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .498. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Colfax came up short against Pe Ell/Willapa Valley in their previous matchup back in May of 2015, falling 10-6. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
