A District 4 recap October 1, 2013
Grand Island was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after defeating Kearney. The Islanders came in at 21 in the state poll after placing at number 31 last week.
North Platte fell to Fremont 47-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Eliott Gloeb threw for 168 yards and 4 touchdowns. He went 12-14 with 0 interception.
Pierce Almond provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Grand Island beat the Bearcats. He completed 10 passes for 139 yards and also ran for 48 yards. Almond's key target this week was Seth Roberg, who caught 3 passes for 42 yards.
Tyler King was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Tigers defeated the Bulldogs. The 6-foot-0 junior.
Noah Voss was the best receiver in A District 4 this week as Fremont topped North Platte. Voss tallied 4 receptions for 65 yards. Kenny Bristol helped Fremont's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 46 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Seth McClain's team's Gloeb and Voss have proven to be a lethal combination. Gloeb has thrown for 1,033 yards this season, while Voss, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 24 catches for 396 yards. Lincoln's Yohanna Shokai leads the league in rushing yards with 671.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when the Tigers' Voss goes up against Jeff Tomlin's team's Roberg.
Next week's game between Fremont and the Islanders will feature a good passing match up as Gloeb will test his arm against Roberg's defensive ability.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Grand Island takes on the Tigers. The Islanders are in first place, while Fremont is in third place.
There should be lots of points scored when Grand Island and the Tigers face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Islanders comes in having scored 148 this season, while Fremont has scored 128. Grand Island scored 26 points last week as it beat Kearney.
The Tigers made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,039 from 9,249. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 47-0 victory over Bernie Madison's team last week.
