Softball Recap: Western Harnett Snags Eighth Victory in Last Nine Games

Western Harnett's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They never let the Terry Sanford Bulldogs get on the board and left with an 18-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won seven contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Ava Corley was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Morgan McAuley was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Grace Bancroft was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Western Harnett hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four strikeouts batters in eight consecutive matchups.

Western Harnett is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Terry Sanford, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

Looking ahead, Western Harnett will take on Lee County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Terry Sanford, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 15-0 loss against Triton on the 2nd.
