Destrehan proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 17) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Central Catholic Eagles. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since March 14th.
Jolie Lozano spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on eight hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Rylie Staton and Ava Burkett did most of the damage at the plate: Staton went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one RBI, while Burkett went 1-for-4 with one home run. Those three stolen bases gave Staton a new career-high. Isabel Fontaine also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Destrehan's record is now 17-8. As for Central Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-5.
