Maddie Such spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Tegan Tripp was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of MaKayla Van Vossen, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, Crown Point never let their opponents score on Monday. Everything went their way against Kankakee Valley as they made off with a 13-0 victory. Considering the Bulldogs have won 14 contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Paige Liezert was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Liezert was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Crown Point got a big performance out of Nevaeh Rangel, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ashlyn Kita, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Crown Point was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kankakee Valley only posted a batting average of .067.
Crown Point's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Lake Central, their record is now 22-3.
Both Lake Central and Crown Point just can't seem to miss. The Indians have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Crown Point struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lake Central came out on top in a nail-biter against Crown Point in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
