The Jefferson Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Hedgesville Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Jefferson is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Jefferson proved they can win big last Saturday (they won by 15) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over Fluvanna County.

Jett Gross spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jefferson secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Andrew Rolfe, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Nayan Dominguez was another, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, Hedgesville narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Millbrook 5-4.
Hedgesville also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and he was also dialed-in: Jay Viands gave up only one earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. Viands is becoming a predictor of the Eagles' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 4-6 when he doesn't).
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mason McGill, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
The win got Hedgesville back to even at 7-7. As for Jefferson, their record is now 12-0.
Hedgesville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Jefferson has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .461. It's a different story for Hedgesville, though, as they've only averaged .345. Will they be able to contain Jefferson's hitters?
Jefferson couldn't quite finish off Hedgesville when the teams last played back in May of 2025 and fell 4-2. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
