Calhoun City hasn't had much luck against Bruce recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Calhoun City will square off against Bruce at 7:00 p.m.
Calhoun City is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Friday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Ingomar.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bruce). They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 14-12 victory over Vardaman on Saturday. The win was some much needed relief for the Trojans as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Sutton Gore was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Bruce is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-9 otherwise. Gore was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February of 2024.
In other batting news, Cole Clark and Jayden McCormick did most of the damage at the plate: Clark went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI, while McCormick went 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Clark has become a key player for Bruce: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Lane Stewart, who scored two runs while going 1-for-5.
Bruce kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Calhoun City's loss dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Bruce, their record now sits at 3-10.
Calhoun City's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's matchup. Calhoun City has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Bruce, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Calhoun City continue to outrun the ball?
Calhoun City might still be hurting after the 17-1 defeat they got from Bruce in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Calhoun City avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
