Abington Heights is 9-1 against West Scranton since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Comets will look to defend their home field against the Invaders at 12:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Abington Heights has five straight wins, West Scranton has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Friday, Abington Heights was able to grind out a solid victory over Scranton Prep, taking the game 10-6.
Reese Zalewski made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Thomas LaCoe was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Tate Pentasuglio, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Abington Heights kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive games.
Meanwhile, West Scranton fell victim to North Pocono and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 8-0 to the Trojans.
Abington Heights' win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for West Scranton, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-12.
West Scranton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Abington Heights has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .477. It's a different story for West Scranton, though, as they've only averaged .342. Will they be able to contain Abington Heights' hitters?
Abington Heights took their win against West Scranton when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 6-0 score. Will the Comets repeat their success, or do the Invaders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
