The Tuscarawas Valley Trojans''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 26-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sandy Valley. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Tuscarawas Valley in their matchups with Sandy Valley: they've now lost six in a row.
Tuscarawas Valley's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Virgil Myers, who picked up 122 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and Cole Clements who threw for 180 yards and two touchdowns on only 16 passes.
Nick Petro had an outrageously good game for Sandy Valley as he rushed for 207 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.9 yards per carry. Petro's longest rush was for an incredible 96 yards. Chad Davis was another key contributor, rushing for 75 yards and two touchdowns.
Sandy Valley's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Chapin Greer and his two sacks.
Tuscarawas Valley's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 4-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-1 Malvern and 7-3 Indian Valley (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 72.5% over those games). As for Sandy Valley, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tuscarawas Valley will face off against Fort Frye at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fort Frye will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. Sandy Valley is on the road again on Friday and play against Lakeview at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th.
