Wolfe City has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Van Alstyne Panthers at 10:50 a.m. Wolfe City will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 797th, while Van Alstyne is ranked 288th).
Last Tuesday, Wolfe City might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Honey Grove an easy 50-26 victory. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Wolfe City has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Van Alstyne scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Tom Bean 62-18 on the road. That 62-18 margin sets a new team best for Van Alstyne this season.
Wolfe City's loss dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Van Alstyne, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.
Wolfe City beat Van Alstyne 43-34 when the teams last played back in November of 2015. Will Wolfe City repeat their success, or does Van Alstyne have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
