There's no place like home for the Laney Buccaneers, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They took down North Brunswick 43-27 on Tuesday. Given Laney's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while North Brunswick is ranked 324th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Piper Conklin, who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Laney's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Bastable, who scored nine points along with five assists and five rebounds.
North Brunswick's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dari?elle Young, who scored six points along with four steals. Samaya Hankins was another key contributor, scoring two points along with five assists.
Laney's victory bumped their record up to 10-4. As for North Brunswick, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-9.
Laney won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against New Hanover at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th. As for North Brunswick, they will head out on the road to challenge South Brunswick at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. South Brunswick is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.
