Bassick is 0-5 against Guilford since November of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Bassick Lions will be playing at home against the Guilford Grizzlies at 6:00 p.m. Bassick comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 51-12, which was the final score in Bassick's tilt against Bullard-Havens RVT/Kolbe-Cathedral on Thursday. Bassick was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-6.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Guilford over Harding in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Guilford blew Harding out of the water with a 56-6 final score. The result was nothing new for Guilford, who have now won four matches by 31 points or more so far this season.
Tyler Hilgert had a dynamite game for Guilford, throwing for 275 yards and five touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Caden Hillier, who rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries.
Bassick's defeat was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-5. Sadly, the team can't blame their woes on tough opposition, as that stretch included 2-8 Weaver and 2-8 Westhill (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 42.1% over those games). Guilford has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in four of their first five games, giving them a 4-1 record.
Bassick was taken down by Guilford 60-0 in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Bassick, Michael O'brien (who rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
