Basketball Recap: Central Now 9-3 over Last 12 Games

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Clovis North, Central was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They walked away with a 63-55 win over the Corcoran Panthers. Given the Grizzlies' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 125th, while the Panthers are ranked 342nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Central got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Stanley Makely out in front who posted 13 points and four steals. Those 13 points gave Makely a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sier Harbin, who earned 15 points and five rebounds.

Corcoran lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Javon Bragg, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten boards. Bragg has been hot for a while, having posted nine or more rebounds the last 11 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Izaiah Gonzalez, who went 6 of 14 en route to 12 points and three steals.

Central has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.6 points per game. As for Corcoran, the loss snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 15-5 record.

Central didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 67-50 defeat against Clovis East on the 21st. As for Corcoran, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 65-60 loss against Bernstein on the 20th.
