If the Highlands Ranch Falcons were riding high off their 61-37 takedown of the Heritage Eagles last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Highlands Ranch was just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 59-58 to Pine Creek. The matchup was a 31-31 toss-up at halftime, but Highlands Ranch was outscored by Pine Creek in the second.
Several Falcons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tori Baker, who scored 20 points along with two steals. Kniyah Dumas was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six assists.
Highlands Ranch struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Brooklyn Stewart was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 17 rebounds for Pine Creek. Stewart is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Leekaya Burke-perryman, who scored 13 points along with five assists.
Highlands Ranch's defeat dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Pine Creek, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Highlands Ranch will challenge Ponderosa at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ponderosa is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. As for Pine Creek, they will head out on the road to challenge Vista Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Vista Ridge will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 105th, while Pine Creek is ranked sixth).
