After flying high against the Sharpstown Apollos on Saturday, the Lamar Texans came back down to earth. Lamar fell just short of Madison by a score of 64-61. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Madison found their leader in underclassman Anthony Avalos, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. The contest was Avalos' 12th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joe Whylie, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Lamar's defeat dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Madison, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 14-7.
Lamar will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Chavez at 6:00 p.m. on January 9th. Madison is on the road again on January 12th and play against Sterling at 8:30 p.m. on January 12th.
