Pomona (Arvada, Colo.) scored 28 points in the second quarter to secure a big 51-7 victory over Boulder (Colo.) on Saturday.
The Panthers scored on a touchdown run by
Dominic Martinez, a
Alec Feland touchdown pass to
Mitch Colin, a touchdown pass by Feland to
Chris Marquez and a Marquez touchdown run in the quarter.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Chris Benefiel in the first quarter, Pomona led 44-7 at the half.
PHS expanded its lead to 44 points entering the fourth quarter. The Arvada school scored once in the quarter on a touchdown run by Marquez.
Marquez was the top performer for the Panthers. He ran for three touchdowns and caught one touchdown. He has now scored five touchdowns on the season.
The Panthers' Tom Baumgartner played well. The sophomore wide receiver threw one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to two on the year.
Boulder's lone touchdown came on a 21-yard pass from Baumgartner to Alex Ybarra in the second quarter.
When the two teams played each other last season, Pomona came away with a 42-0 victory.
The win was a nice bounce back for PHS, which lost to Chaparral last week, 28-23.
Boulder (2-3) goes up against Ralston Valley in a 5A North Metro game matchup next week, while Pomona (4-1) locks horns with Legacy also in a 5A North Metro game.
