Chicago Academy had lost four straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 0-7 to make it five. They came up short against the Farragut Admirals, falling 15-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Cougars were not able to get on the board.
As for Farragut, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-5. Considering they have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
For Farragut's part, Alex Barrera and Freddy Garcia made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Barrera pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Garcia struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. At the plate, Barrera got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run, while Garcia went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Garcia is becoming a predictor of Farragut's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 4-5 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Farragut got a massive performance out of Ben DeMateo, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with five stolen bases and three runs. DeMateo has become a key player for the Admirals: the team is 7-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Nico Roman also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
