Volleyball Recap: Highland Extends Winning Streak to Two

Aurora came into Thursday's matchup looking for another win against Highland, but Carley Niese wouldn't allow it. The Hornets narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Greenmen 3-2 thanks in part to Niese, who had 30 digs and three aces. She is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 13 or more in each of the last four games she's played.

Highland was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. The match finished with set scores of 25-13, 24-26, 12-25, 29-27, 15-13.

Despite the loss, Aurora saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Arabella Wetzel had 15 digs and four aces. With that strong performance, Wetzel is now averaging an impressive 2.1 aces per game. Lily Carnahan also deserves some recognition as she served her first ace of the season.

The win made it two in a row for Highland and bumps their season record up to 8-5. As for Aurora, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-4 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Highland will square off against rival Copley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Aurora is set to take on their familiar foe Revere at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
