The Mathis Pirates lost against the Goliad Tigers back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Mathis fell to Goliad 44-39. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Mathis in their matchups with Goliad: they've now lost four in a row.
Mathis' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brandon Reed, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Arik Cuellar, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Mathis' defeat dropped their record down to 13-13. As for Goliad, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 24-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mathis will take on Odem at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Goliad, they will be playing at home against Aransas Pass at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Aransas Pass has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 289 points over their last three matchups.
