Clovis has won five straight games at home, while Frontier has won five straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Cougars will welcome the Titans at 7:00 p.m. Clovis is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 38.4 points per game this season.
On Friday, Clovis was able to grind out a solid victory over Clovis West, taking the game 28-17.
Clovis' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Deagan Rose led the charge by throwing for 260 yards and two TDs. James Curoso helped Rose out on the ground, rushing for 64 yards and a pair of scores.
Clovis' run defense was locked in: Clovis West could only muster -2.8 yards per carry. The team can thank Curoso for the heroic effort on defense: he. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Clovis; they were averaging 6.2yards per carry per game earlier this season, but in their last three games they've fallen to only 4.4 per game.
Meanwhile, Frontier slipped by Centennial 15-14 on Thursday. Given the Titans' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Golden Hawks are ranked 373rd) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Clovis better keep an eye on Talen Mather. He was instrumental in Frontier's win, rushing for 175 yards and two touchdowns. They are undefeated when Mather posts two or more rushing touchdowns, but 1-4 otherwise.
Frontier didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Keegan Robertson and Mekhai Watkins. Robertson is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last six games he's played.
Clovis' record now sits at 8-2. As for Frontier, their record is now 6-4.
The upcoming contest will be a clash of competing strengths. Clovis has relied on air attacks this season and has averaged 269.5 passing yards per game. Frontier, on the other hand, has relied on a stout run game: they average 182.1 rushing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
Clovis and Frontier were almost perfectly matched up in their previous meeting back in September, but Clovis suffered an agonizing 27-26 loss. Will the Cougars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other football content.
