The Orleans Bulldogs will take on the Springs Valley Blackhawks at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Orleans is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Orleans came into this matchup off a tough ten-run loss on Thursday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Bedford North Lawrence by a score of 5-3 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Bulldogs have suffered since April 26, 2024.
Orleans saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adrian Abel, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Cordelia Robbins also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Springs Valley got the win against Paoli on Thursday by a conclusive 8-2. The result was nothing new for the Blackhawks, who have now won four matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Lily Hickman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Marissa Marshall and Elliott Wininger did most of the damage at the plate: Marshall went 2-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Wininger went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave Wininger a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Olivia Allen, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Springs Valley is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Orleans, their loss ended an 11-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 11-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Orleans has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Springs Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Orleans skirted past Springs Valley 2-0 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Blackhawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
