Last Tuesday, Kearney Catholic didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Boone Central, but they still walked away with a 36-30 victory. Given Kearney Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while Boone Central is ranked 169th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kearney Catholic's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Callie Squiers, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. The contest was Squiers' fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Payton Dzingle, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, after some red-hot offensive attacks in their last three contests, Amherst finally came back down to earth on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 53-23 loss at the hands of Gothenburg. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Amherst has scored all season.
Kearney Catholic's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1. As for Amherst, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2.
