The North Tonawanda Lumberjacks will challenge the Niagara Falls Wolverines at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: North Tonawanda has struggled recently with six losses in a row, while Niagara Falls will arrive with six straight wins.
On Friday, North Tonawanda didn't have quite enough to beat Kenmore East and fell 3-1. The matchup marked the Lumberjacks' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Aiden Shingleton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, North Tonawanda saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Javi Ortiz, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Niagara Falls got themselves on the board against Grand Island on Friday, but Grand Island never followed suit. They blew past the Vikings 7-0. Considering the Wolverines have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Not much got past Andre Borges, who gave up just six hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Grand Island off the board.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nicholas Ligammari, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Littere, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double.
Niagara Falls pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games. As for North Tonawanda, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.
North Tonawanda couldn't quite get it done against Niagara Falls when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-0. Will the Lumberjacks have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
