Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Clairemont

Clairemont had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They walked away with a 62-49 win over the La Jolla Vikings. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Chieftains' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 857th, while the Vikings are ranked 315th).

Clairemont's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Liam Brock, who posted 11 points in addition to six assists and five boards. Those six assists gave Brock a new career-high. Blake Murphy was another key player, putting up 12 points along with six rebounds and three blocks.

Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brody Sessa, who went 8 of 20 on his way to 18 points in addition to six boards and five steals. Another player making a difference was Carson Diehl, who scored seven points along with 16 rebounds and five steals.

The victory got Clairemont back to even at 10-10. As for La Jolla, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clairemont will host Kearny at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Clairemont's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three matches. As for La Jolla, they will be playing at home against Madison at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Madison will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something La Jolla surely won't give up without a fight.
