Football Recap: North Sanpete Finds Playoff Glory Versus Union

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only North Sanpete walked away with it. They strolled past the Union Cougars with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 30-14. 30 seems to be a good number for the Hawks as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.

North Sanpete was led to victory by Maddox Madsen and Ayden Akee. Madsen rushed for 25 yards and three TDs, while Akee rushed for 103 yards and one touchdown. That's the most rushing touchdowns Madsen has posted since back in August.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something North Sanpete proved: they limited Union to a paltry 2.8 yards per carry. The team can thank Dalton Poulson for the heroic effort on defense: he. The dominant display was nothing new: North Sanpete has now limited their opponent to fewer and fewer yards per carry in three consecutive games.

North Sanpete's defense didn't let Gannon Labrum, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. Union's QB won't forget Wyatt Hobush anytime soon given he sacked him three times. Hobush has become a key player for North Sanpete: the team is undefeated when he posts at least one sack, but 3-4 otherwise.

Although Union took the loss, they still got scores from Cruz Labrum and Gannon.

North Sanpete's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-4. As for Union, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

North Sanpete will square off against Manti at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hawks will need to watch out since the Templars have now posted at least 31 points in their last four contests. Union does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
