The Molina Jaguars lost against the Hillcrest Panthers back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Molina took a 49-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hillcrest. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Molina in their matchups with Hillcrest: they've now lost six in a row.
Despite the loss, Molina saw an underclassman step up: T'erricka Gassaway scored 23 points. That was a full 59% of Molina's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Yadira Rivas was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Leading Hillcrest to victory were Clauriannys Berrios and Emma Yurich. Berrios scored 18 points along with two steals, while Yurich scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and five assists. Yurich hasn't dropped below 15points for nine straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasara Ross, who scored six points along with ten rebounds.
Molina's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-9. As for Hillcrest, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-7.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Kimball the next time they take the court. Hillcrest will host Kimball at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Molina will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
