This season hasn't been kind to The Mehlville Panthers, who are still winless after their tenth match. They were dealt a 45-3 defeat at the hands of Central on Friday. While losing is never fun, Mehlville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri football rankings (they are ranked 276th, while Central is ranked 89th).
Central was led to victory by Zai'aire Thomas and Keyshawn Boyd. Thomas gained 116 total yards and two touchdowns, while Boyd rushed for 86 yards and three touchdowns. Boyd hasn't dropped below two rushing touchdowns for five straight games.
Mehlville's loss was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-10. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-0 Seckman and 11-4 Central (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 65.4% over those games). As for Central, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-3.
Mehlville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Central will take on St. Mary's at TBD on Friday. St. Mary's comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 12 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
